公益財団法人渋沢栄一記念財団がその事業を拡張していった21世紀初頭の15年間に焦点をあてた、英文の財団史。1886年（明治19）創立の竜門社に始まる渋沢栄一記念財団は、渋沢栄一が主張し実践していた「道徳経済合一主義」に基づき、経済道義の高揚を目的とする財団として歩んできた。そして1999年（平成11）に開催した第1回渋沢記念日本研究国際セミナー以来、国際的な知的交流という新しい分野に踏み込んだ。その後に企画実現した数多くの共同研究、シンポジウム、展覧会等を通し、また栄一及び実業史関係情報をデジタル化し発信することで、栄一の業績が持つ世界史的な意義が内外に理解されていった。本書はこの財団の足跡を、海外の読者に向けて3つの事業部門別に詳述したもので、全体は6章からなる。編者は米国インディアナ大学副学長Gil Latz氏で、この15年間の財団活動の企画に関わり、また助言を寄せている。執筆は第1、6章が財団理事長渋沢雅英と編者Latz氏、第2-4章は各部門の部門長による。表紙の柏の絵は編者夫人Celia Curfman Latz氏の描いたもので、渋沢家の柏の紋に因んでいる。
第1章「Rediscovering Shibusawa Eiichi」は序章にあたり、栄一の年譜を掲げてその生涯を総括し、論語に範をとった栄一の思想と行動に触れる。そして『渋沢栄一伝記資料』とその編纂に尽力した嫡孫渋沢敬三について述べ、以下の章の内容を概観している。事業部門の最初は第2章「The Shibusawa Memorial Museum: past, present, and future」で、竜門社の歩みを踏まえて1982年（昭和57）に発足した渋沢史料館の足跡。博物館設立の経緯に続き、栄一生誕150周年と新本館開館という2つの転機と、近年の新展開について述べている。第3章「The Resource Center for the History of Entrepreneurship: past, present, and future」は、渋沢敬三の構想した日本実業史博物館を現代的な手法で実現するため2003年（平成15）に設置された、実業史研究情報センターの足跡である。この構想にそって社史、絵引、デジタル伝記資料、ビジネスアーカイブズの振興といった事業が次々展開され、同時に栄一関連情報の整備と発信が実践されていった。章末にはそれらを裏付ける資料が添付されている。第4章「The Research Department: academic entrepreneurship through global human networks」は、1999年の国際セミナー開催を機に2002年（平成14）に発足した研究部の足跡。渋沢栄一研究の促進を軸にグローバルな知的・人的ネットワークの形成を目指した研究部は、寄附講座、新たな国際セミナーやシンポジウム、「論語とそろばん」セミナーなどの事業を内外で幅広く開催し、成果物を出版していった。第5章では以上の3事業部門の活動に対し、各事業に参加した内外の識者26人から寄せられたコメントが、部門ごとに掲載されている。第6章は「Concluding thoughts: past as prologue」と題され、前章までの総括と将来への展望が述べられている。巻末索引付。
