解題
1970年に初版が刊行され、2017年に復刻版が刊行された渋沢雅英著『太平洋にかける橋 : 渋沢栄一の生涯』をベースとした渋沢栄一の英語版伝記。著者は渋沢栄一の曾孫で、民間外交の面から栄一の国際的な活躍と生涯を考察した一書。日本語原著の骨子を生かしつつ最新の考察を取り入れた内容に改訂している。原著の「まえがき」「あとがき」「渋沢栄一略年譜」等を略すかわりに新たに「まえがき」を書き下ろし、付録として、栄一が団長となり行った民間経済外交のさきがけ"渡米実業団"（1909年）の「旅程」「団員の一覧」、および「著者略歴」を収載する。
